Tips for Decorating Your Bathroom

HI-Decorating-Bathroom-201707.pngBathrooms can be a design challenge if you assume that your options are limited. Although you don’t have a lot of space to work with, there are several ways that you can decorate in order to make your bathroom look more spacious. If you’re working on redesigning your bathroom, use these tips to give you some ideas.

Use Color to Your Advantage

Using the right colors can make even the bathrooms appear larger, regardless of the space you have. This generally means having brightly colored hues in your bathroom rather than muted ones, neutral ones or dark colors. Lighter, vivid colors, such as yellows and some shades of blue, add a lively touch to bathrooms. This also has the added effect of giving the space a roomier feel.

Make the Most of Lighting

Lighting can have a huge impact on the look and mood of your bathroom. If you have a window in your bathroom, make sure you let in as much sunlight as possible. Don’t keep knick-knacks or other items on window sills, where they might block some sunlight. If you want your window to have curtains, choose a translucent style that lets natural light in. If your bathroom doesn’t have windows, consider switching to a light fixture that adds brightness or putting in more than one light fixture, such as task lighting above cabinets or near shower and tub areas.

Choose a Minimal Style

Certain kinds of bathroom styles are too busy for smaller bathrooms. Choosing a more contemporary style that has a streamlined look and less decor overall can lend the appearance of space and roominess. These bathrooms tend to have straight lines, a sleekness to storage and fixtures that save space, such as pedestal sinks. Having a minimal style can give your small bathroom a more spacious look.

Add Height and Length with Surface Patterns

You can make a bathroom look higher or longer when you choose certain surface patterns for your walls and floor. If you have a tile floor or a hardwood floor, the individual pieces of these floors should accentuate the length of your bathroom, rather than being installed across the shorter spaces. Wallpaper designs that have vertical stripes or patterns can make your walls and ceiling look higher. If you have tiles on the walls, these should be installed in straight, horizontal lines to give your bathroom more depth.
