Using Fresh Winter Greenery to Decorate Your Home

Dec 12, 2017 -- Posted by : admin

Fresh greenery can really ‘spruce’ up your home. The look and smell of seasonal cuttings bring a smile to everyone’s face. If you’ve ever wondered how to add winter greenery to your home, here are some tips from interior design services in Frisco that will help bring the outdoors inside this season.

The Look of Fresh Greenery

  1. Above Your Door: We often see mistletoe hanging from doorways during the holidays, but why not change it up and use tree cuttings instead? Gather a few pieces together, tie them with twine and pretty ribbon, and hang them by a nail or sturdy tack from the doorframe. This adds a unique, festive look to any room.
  2. Natural Table Runner: For a more rustic, natural-looking table runner, try using greenery. Take tree cuttings and place them down the center of your table, as you would a runner. Note that the cuttings will dry out in just a couple of days, so make sure to do this right before entertaining.
  3. Perk Up Your Mantel or Tabletop: Speaking of tabletops, rather than flowers in vases, try tree cuttings in tin cans. Empty coffee or soup cans can be spray painted (or simply left cleaned up and left as they are) with cutting placed inside. These cans will bring a pop of green to your mantelpiece or table.
  4. Live Wreaths: Making your own live wreath this holiday season can save you a great deal of money, plus you’ll have a wreath unlike anyone else’s on the block. Grab any old green wreath (they are often very cheap at craft stores, or you can use an old one you have hanging around the attic or garage) and your hot glue gun. Liberally glue your wreath and place cuttings on top. The thicker you’d like the wreath, the more layers you’ll want to add. When finished, add any trimmings you’d like—bows, baubles, ribbons…or nothing at all! Let it dry and then hang.
  5. Transform Desserts: Evergreens look wonderful around the base of classic desserts like chocolate cakes. Place a ring around the base of the cake to make it look really festive.
  6. Add Charm: Giving gifts this holiday season? Birthday presents, hostess gifts or housewarming gifts—they’ll all look a bit more seasonal with a sprig of greenery tucked into the ribbon or bow.
